Drive Through Madison Park: Seattle Neighborhood Highlights

Hey friends — happy day after Mother’s Day!

After an intense season of book writing and a busy stretch of projects this year, I’ve intentionally slowed my pace to rest and recharge. It isn’t a full vacation, though I’d welcome one, but carving out time to be present has been exactly what I needed. Instead of constantly doing and meeting deadlines, I’ve given myself permission to simply be — to enjoy the small moments that refill my energy.

I love my work and remain deeply grateful for the opportunities I’ve had over the past eleven and a half years. Still, there are seasons as a small business owner that are especially demanding. When you’re self-employed or driven by big goals, it can be hard to pause between projects, even when those pauses are crucial. As the saying goes, you can’t pour from an empty cup, so I’m learning to protect the time that replenishes me.

Sometimes that means making a deliberate decision to guard rest, even if it requires slowing down or letting a few things wait. I’ve granted myself that same permission through many phases of life, and it’s made a real difference. Maintaining a healthy rhythm between work and rest keeps creativity, productivity, and joy alive. Productivity is satisfying and fun, but so are unhurried moments alone or with loved ones — those quiet slices of time are vital to well-being.

Slowing down doesn’t come naturally to me — I genuinely enjoy my work — but taking time to wander through neighborhoods, sip coffee slowly, and putter in the yard has felt refreshing. I can’t wait to share the progress we’ve made in our outdoor spaces; there’s so much to show you.

Yesterday I spent a lovely Mother’s Day with my family doing things I love. We began at Storyville — their almond milk latte is hands-down my favorite — then took a sunny walk along Alki Beach in West Seattle. The weather was perfect and the day felt restorative.

Aren’t my kids adorable? 🙂

After the beach we drove to Madison Park, one of my favorite Seattle neighborhoods. I love its beautiful homes, thoughtful landscaping, and the streets that overlook Lake Washington. The views are inspiring, and the area is a joy to explore on foot or by car.

I snapped a few photos to share — I’ll definitely go back with my camera to take more. Enjoy these scenes from our day:

I can’t imagine a better way to spend the day — enjoying the outdoors with my sweet family, sipping coffee, and admiring beautiful houses.

Hope you’re finding moments that refill you, too, sweet friend!
