31-Day Autumn Series — Day 27: Quick Fall Centerpiece Ideas

Yesterday I shared a Fall table I loved and realized I hadn’t shown what’s currently on my table: two hurricanes from one of my sponsors, DaySpring. I really like them—both the hurricanes and the company!

One nice detail is that the hurricanes can be customized to read “Giving Thanks” or “Thanks Giving,” so they work well throughout the season and beyond.

And in case you’re wondering, the things that look like tiny fish floating among the rocks at the bottom of the glass are not goldfish—they’re silk leaves. The photo angle makes them look a bit fish-like, but they’re just decorative leaves.

This simple centerpiece or buffet accent is quick and easy to assemble right before dinner or a party. I started by filling the base of the glass with small, smooth stones because I liked the natural look. Then I added water, tucked in a few silk leaves for color, and floated candles on top. Light the candles and you have an instant fall ambience.

I keep a collection of small seasonal items on hand so I can put something like this together in minutes. In addition to floating candles (you can find them at craft stores), I store silk leaves, small rocks, nuts, faux berries and fruit, pine cones, sticks, moss, and decorative balls or ornaments. Those little elements make it easy to change the look for different seasons.

As I mentioned on Day 7 of Autumn Bliss, I store many of these seasonal supplies in zip-top bags inside baskets or a cabinet in the living room. I don’t always plan far ahead for decor—I’m often last-minute—but having supplies organized nearby means I can create something attractive in no time.

Quick takeaway: Gather basic supplies for simple centerpieces, bag them up, and store them with your hurricanes, vases, and bowls in a buffet or cabinet near the dining table. When supplies are handy, you’re far more likely to set a pretty table for family dinners or guests. Try it today—you’ll appreciate the ease next time you want to create a seasonal display.

Do you have little things stashed away that you could use for a quick centerpiece?
