Sometimes it feels like everyone else has it together and can whip their home back into shape right after the holidays. Not me—I need until at least February to feel ready for the new year. That said, January is a perfect time for a home reset. Don’t you think?

Now that it’s mid-January, I’m finally settling into a winter routine. Others may already be thinking about spring, and that’s fine. Our house is still a little disorganized from remodel work, but getting everything back in order shouldn’t be hard.

We hoped the kitchen would be finished earlier, but a few important pieces are still pending—a trim for the round window, paint touch-ups that took longer than expected, and a couple of small things that needed correcting. I’m really excited to share the kitchen reveal as soon as everything is complete.

The dust and contractors will soon be a memory. I’m looking forward to collapsing on my daybed without anyone watching my every move.

We’ve grown used to working around the mess. I’m more productive in an empty house, but you do what you have to. Still, I’m ready for the calm that follows a renovation.

Last year’s projects were exciting and we’re grateful we could do them. This year I’m especially looking forward to the nesting phase: settling in, arranging things thoughtfully, and enjoying the finished spaces. We spent so much of last year updating the main floor and lower level that the idea of putting everything back together is very appealing.

Believe it or not, I can’t wait to return to regular cleaning routines. I actually look forward to the day every room is dusted and arranged again. There’s satisfaction in small, consistent tasks that keep a home feeling cared for.

I enjoy the little daily rituals—puttering around the house, tidying, and rearranging things to make a space feel fresh. Those small changes can make a big difference in how a home feels and functions.

The dogs have been patient through this transitional season with contractors and moving. I know they’ll be just as happy as I am to explore the house freely when the work is done.

It’s the little things that matter: cozy corners, comfortable rooms, and spaces that inspire calm. Resetting a home can mean letting go of what no longer serves your family, rearranging to improve flow, or simply refreshing a room to breathe new life into it.

How are you resetting your home for the new year?
