Happy first day of fall! I recently shared our cozy fall entry, and today I’m excited to show you the front porch—2022 edition. I added a few simple, welcoming touches that make coming home feel a little bit happier.
I’ll also share the connected covered porch soon; we added a pretty blue rug that makes that space feel extra inviting. If you’d like to follow along for updates and some exclusive content I don’t share anywhere else, consider subscribing to the newsletter.

This vintage fisherman’s basket is the same one you may have seen from inside the entry. I found it at an antique market and thought it was the perfect rustic, coastal accent. I placed two potted heather plants inside so they can be easily removed to water. The basket has a white rope tied on as a handle for a bit of nautical charm; because the basket was fragile in the back I secured it with brown twine and hung it from a cup hook on the door.
You can see a little video of our porch below!

For plants and containers I mixed styles and textures—rattan, ceramic, and resin planters—to create an eclectic, collected look. Some pots I picked up locally at Ace Hardware and Christianson’s, others came from our previous home. A few of the fall plants arrived in attractive nursery pots, so I used them as-is. Eventually I’ll plant some of the seasonal pots into larger containers, but I like the casual, layered feeling of leaving them as they are for now.

Our dogs, Jack and Lily, were fascinated by the fresh plants and pumpkins. Jack has a habit of nibbling on houseplants, so we keep most delicate greenery out of his reach. He doesn’t go out on the front porch unsupervised, so both the plants and Jack stay safe while we enjoy the decorations.

You might notice the lantern mounted on the house—our beloved lantern from the previous home is finally installed here and ready for seasonal displays. I like to decorate it with moss and battery-operated candles to create a warm glow without wiring. It’s been fun bringing a familiar piece to this new porch and dressing it up for fall.

Recently I spotted delicate Cinderella pumpkins at a local market—their soft colors were irresistible, so I brought a few home. They add a subtle, elegant touch compared with the traditional bright orange pumpkins, and they fit nicely with the coastal color palette here.

A little personal note: this is the fourth season we’ve owned this house, but it feels like our first full fall here since we were in the middle of moving last year. I’m excited to make the porch a seasonal focal point and plan to enjoy decorating it each autumn for years to come.
