Hi friends, it’s Courtney here! My husband and I recently bought the Ikea Antilop high chair for our baby. It’s an affordable, practical option—only $19.99—and popular among our parent friends. We decided to give it a simple makeover to achieve a more refined, high-end look.

This is how it looked before—clean and straightforward, but plain.

Ikea Antilop High Chair Makeover (Simple Hack!)
What we used for the high chair makeover:
- Wood leg wraps in bamboo color, cut to fit the Antilop legs perfectly.
- A wood footrest in bamboo color that attaches and adjusts as the baby grows.
- A small support cushion to improve back and hip positioning.
- A wipeable vegan leather cushion cover (we chose sage). It’s durable and easy to clean.
- A silicone placemat in a neutral tone that fits the tray nicely.

I’ll admit I’m not a seasoned DIYer—my mom would certainly attest to that—but this project seemed simple enough. The wood leg wraps are essentially adhesive covers, so I thought it would be quick and easy.
I learned the hard way that applying sticky wrap to a long cylindrical leg requires patience. On my first attempt I rushed and the wrap started to crease and stick in the wrong places. I had to stop, trim, and reapply carefully to salvage it. Once I slowed down and followed the instructions, my technique improved and each leg became easier. By the last leg it looked perfect.

If you do this makeover, take your time with the adhesive wraps and watch the included instruction video. Patience makes a big difference and the results are worth it.

The footrest was a worthwhile addition. It helps keep little feet supported and places the baby in a more ergonomic eating position, which often makes mealtime calmer and more focused.

The support cushion improves posture by supporting the back and hips and encourages the baby to sit slightly forward, which reduces mess in their lap. It’s easy to wipe clean between meals.
Overall, I’m very happy with how the makeover turned out. The finished chair looks more polished and fits our home decor far better than the stock version. The upgrade gives the Antilop a more expensive vibe while keeping the affordability and simplicity that made us choose it in the first place.
