Hi friends! I’m Michaela, and I’m excited to share a simple, charming DIY you can make in February for Valentine’s Day. I adore flowers, so this project is a favorite — it’s easy, affordable, and makes a lovely gift or centerpiece.

This tutorial shows how to create a heart-shaped floral arrangement. It’s perfect for a craft party with friends or as a last-minute Valentine’s decoration. For best results, assemble it within a few days of Valentine’s so the blooms stay fresh.

You’ll need:

– Flowers. I used carnations and spray roses because they fill space nicely, are fluffy, and certain carnations can resemble baby peonies when chosen in the right variety and color.
– A kraft heart-shaped box (I found mine at Hobby Lobby for $2.99).
– Floral foam (it can be slightly smaller than the box).
– Scissors
– Foil
– A knife
– A bowl of water and floral food

Step 1: Line the inside of the kraft heart box with foil to protect the cardboard from moisture.

Step 2: Cut the floral foam to fit the heart box. To get the exact shape, press the foam into the lid, turn it over, and trim the excess with a knife so it nests neatly inside.

Step 3: Soak the foam in a bowl of water mixed with plant food until it’s fully saturated — about 10 minutes works well.

Step 4: The fun part — cut your blooms with about an inch of stem remaining and insert them into the floral foam.

Place the sturdier carnations first — their stems hold well in the foam. Add spray roses and other smaller blooms to fill gaps, taking care with thinner stems by supporting them at the base as you push them into the foam. If you want carnations to look more like peonies, gently peel back a few inner petals; choosing carnations with tightly scrunched centers helps achieve that look.

Use smaller filler flowers or buds to fill any remaining spaces so the surface looks dense and even. Once finished, display the heart arrangement on a coffee table, prop it on a shelf, or attach ribbon to hang it on a door. It makes a sweet wreath alternative and a cozy seasonal accent.
