Can you believe summer is almost here? It’s time to refresh the house for the season. A few weeks ago I treated myself to a seaglass-colored lamp for the living room. I love its soft coastal hue and the light it brings to the space. It even reminds me of a bottle lamp I made years ago that I still keep as a memento.
This new lamp is extra pretty and brings a breezy, seaside feel to the room. It’s quickly become a favorite accent piece.

Although winter is behind us, our fireplace remains a beloved feature. Last fall we installed a fireplace insert and it has been one of our best home improvements. It kept us cozy all winter and during the stay-at-home weeks, and we still gather around it on cooler days. Since our climate rarely gets very hot, we expect to enjoy the fireplace much of the year.
With summer decorating in mind, we swapped a few things for lighter, airier options, like breezier curtains for this room. These curtains are pieces I’ve had for years and they help keep the space feeling relaxed and inviting.

This year didn’t go as planned for larger house projects. I had hoped to add millwork, built-ins, refinish floors, or tackle a bathroom update. Given recent uncertainty, many projects were sensible to postpone for now. What I called my “year of dwelling well” took on new meaning as our daily life changed unexpectedly. With family home more than usual and routines shifting, the experience has been a reminder to appreciate what matters most.

Even though we paused larger updates, we’ve enjoyed small, satisfying improvements. I love the simple act of putting things right—swapping a lamp, refreshing textiles, moving a few accessories. Small changes can make a room feel new without a big investment, and I’m happiest when I’m puttering around the house making little tweaks.

We’ve been reorganizing now that our nest isn’t quite as empty. Furniture rearrangements, new art on the walls, a candle lantern by the front door and more time spent in the yard gathering spring flowers have all helped refresh the home. I’ve been slowly getting my daughter Courtney settled in the lower level and creating a more organized office area. Plans changed along the way and progress has been gradual, but the space is coming together and I’ll share an update soon.
Have you adjusted any home improvement plans this year? I hope you’re well and finding little ways to make your home feel more peaceful and comfortable.
