This post is in partnership with Wayfair

The countdown to the holidays is on. We’re hosting Thanksgiving next week and Christmas is just a few weeks away, so my daughter Courtney and I have been getting the house ready for the entire hosting season with help from Wayfair.

From baking treats to setting the table and choosing gifts, Wayfair has everything we need to celebrate and enjoy the season.

On a blustery day last week, Courtney and I put on some jazzy tunes and did pre-holiday prepping. We focused on a few simple tasks:

  • Lit candles to create a cozy mood since it was so dark outside.
  • Did some early Christmas decorating—much of it takes longer than you expect, so I’m glad we started ahead of time.
  • Gathered our favorite holiday dessert plates and appetizer dishes and placed them together so they’ll be easy to find when we host.
  • Baked a Christmas gingerbread loaf in a white scalloped loaf pan using a new recipe we loved.
  • Refreshed kitchen shelves with a seasonal mix of green and white plates and platters to make serving easy and festive.
  • Sipped coffee from festive mugs while we worked.
  • Taste-tested the gingerbread loaf (highly recommend the recipe).

Have you started preparing your home for the holiday and hosting season?

We found it’s enjoyable to make a day of it—you get a lot done and it feels festive. I’ll definitely plan another prep day soon.
