Discover Your Personal Style: A Guide to Finding Your Look

get to know you - the inspired room - your style

Last November I asked readers to turn the tables and share a bit about themselves, and the responses were wonderful. I enjoy hearing from you in comments, emails, and on social media, but I especially love learning more about the people behind the screens. You often hear my house stories (and there are plenty more in my new book), so it’s a treat to read about your homes and how you live in them.

So many of you joined the conversation and revealed where you live and details about your homes. I read every comment and it’s been a joy to see readers connect with one another over shared tastes and stories. Many readers commented for the first time, which was especially heartwarming.

Today I’m asking another get-to-know-you question. If you haven’t yet, please delurk and join the conversation — I’d love to hear from you, and other readers do too.

Here’s the question: how would you describe your decorating style in words? Defining a style can be tricky. You may love several looks, but settle on one that suits your house, your budget, or the pieces you already own.

Tell us the style you decorate with now and whether you like it or are moving toward a new look. This is just for fun. Share favorite colors, furniture preferences, and the words you’d use to describe your aesthetic: cottage, modern, farmhouse, traditional, mid-century modern, coastal, eclectic, or a collected-over-time mix. Is your style driven by the architecture of your home or by what you simply love? If you’re evolving toward a new look, describe that journey. If you’re just starting out or don’t have a defined style yet, that’s great to hear as well.

I love hearing from you. There are over 600,000 monthly readers at The Inspired Room, which makes these personal stories even more special.

If you’re unsure how to comment, it’s easy: click the comment link at the end of the post, fill in your name and email (email is a security measure), and type your message. You can leave the website field blank unless you want to share it.

Ready, set, delurk!

PS. Thank you to everyone voting in the Better Homes & Gardens blogger contest. The Decorating nominees appear on the last screen now, so scroll through to the end to find them. You can skip categories or vote in each one.
