One of my favorite design touches is charming outdoor lighting. I’ve added an outdoor lantern to the porch of nearly every house we’ve owned. We haven’t changed the exterior lights at this house yet, but these inspiring examples have me thinking about new possibilities.

Although most of these images show exteriors, don’t forget that outdoor fixtures can work beautifully inside. Several of the lights in my home are sold as outdoor lighting — including my dining room fixture. Using outdoor-rated lanterns indoors can add unexpected character and durability.
