Home Renovation Projects 2013: Family Room, Dining, Bedrooms & Bath

House Projects Blogger DIY and Decorating

Welcome to Part Two of my home projects from 2013.

This post continues the tour of projects and updates around our home. If you missed it, you can find Part One on the original blog. Looking back over a year’s worth of work was time well spent — it reminded me how slow and steady changes can add up. I’m not one for rushing; I enjoy the process of making small, meaningful improvements and savor the moment when a project is finished. Turning a house into a home is a joy, and I love every minute of it.

Most of what I do is simple, affordable, and approachable. I enjoy puttering: adjusting details, trying different arrangements, and refining colors and textures until a room feels right. My home evolves bit by bit, and I try to share each step so you can follow along. Thank you for joining me as I tinker and experiment with new ideas.

Enjoy revisiting the projects below and catching up on the changes we made in 2013.

The Family Room

As we remodeled the kitchen, we also refreshed the adjoining family room. Small updates made a big difference in how the space feels.

We installed bamboo blinds, embellished IKEA curtains, added a new tufted ottoman, and created a gallery wall, among other tweaks. Below are posts that document these updates and the process behind them.

TV / Media Room

The TV/media room is still a work in progress, but one highlight from the year was adding new wall sconces. I’ll share more about this room as we complete it.

Dining Room Evolution

The dining room has changed more than any other space in our home and it continues to evolve. I’ve enjoyed the different stages, but I also have a clear direction in mind for the final look.

Even through small, quiet updates over the year, the room has progressed toward that goal. I’ll share a full update when I’ve finished more of the details.

Bed and Bath Projects

This year we updated two bedrooms we had wanted to finish for a long time. Tackling these rooms was a major milestone, and we’re pleased with the results.

We also completed a quick mini-makeover of the powder room. In 2014 we planned to finish details in these spaces and continue working on the upstairs.

DIY tutorial Christmas Wreath Chandelier

At the end of the year we shared a Christmas house tour with lots of seasonal photos. Decorating the porch was a highlight, and we enjoyed creating a Boxwood Wreath Chandelier for the entry.

. . . . .

That captures most of our projects from the year. If I missed anything, it was likely a small update or two — but these posts highlight the major changes and the spirit of slow, thoughtful transformation.

I’m excited to continue refining our home in the coming year and appreciate you following along with the journey.

Happy New Year!
