Our Long Sofa Table: Three Ways to Use One Piece

As I mentioned, our living room has been going through a small “in-between” makeover. With the holidays approaching I wanted the space to feel cozy and functional, so I focused on finishing a few key pieces. Since we rearranged the room this year, it has taken some time to bring everything back together.

Today I’m sharing how I styled one of my favorite furniture pieces, the Aiden Console Table by World Market. We’ve used this table in at least three different ways across two homes — it’s a truly versatile piece.

One item I was missing was a sofa table to place behind our sectional. I looked through what we already had and considered custom options, but most pieces were either too short or would have required too much time and expense for a temporary need.

Everything I tried was too small, and I didn’t want to invest in bespoke furniture since I wasn’t sure how long this sectional would stay in the current layout. I needed a simple, attractive solution that would work now and later.

The Aiden Console Table from World Market kept coming to mind. It was slightly too short for the sectional, but otherwise it was the right height, depth and shape to sit behind the sofa and look balanced against the wall.

This console table has been a reliable solution in multiple rooms over the years. It’s served as a display table, a serving cart, and most recently as a sofa table behind a leather couch. That use gave me an idea: if one cart worked well as a sofa table, why not use two side-by-side to create a longer table for the sectional?

I measured, headed to World Market with a gift card, and picked up a second Aiden cart—luckily it was 40% off. Back home I set the two units side by side, without any hardware or modifications, and they instantly became a long, cohesive sofa table.

The two carts tuck neatly behind the sectional so they’re discreet from most angles, but they look attractive when you see the side or view the tabletop. I didn’t feel the need to fasten them together — keeping things simple was the winning approach.

You can see a few other ways I’ve used the Aiden console table over the years. It was perfect as a display table in a narrow dining space and fun to decorate for the holidays.

We’ve also used it as a serving cart for drinks and desserts in various rooms, and of course as a conventional sofa table. Investing in flexible pieces like this one opens the door to many uses through the years.

Now that we’re using two Aiden carts side by side, the result is a long, functional surface ideal for lamps, decor, books or snacks. It feels finished, balanced and practical for everyday living.

Two really can be better than one.
