Meet Cassie: A Personal Introduction and Cozy Home Tour

HHello! It’s Courtney, and I’m thrilled to share a special announcement. Over a year ago we introduced you to Michaela, our “long lost sister” and kindred spirit, and we’ve loved having her contribute her inspiring projects and ideas here on The Inspired Room. Today I’m excited to introduce another kindred spirit and friend — a new “long lost sister” to welcome into our blog family:

Cassie Kulp - The Inspired Room

Meet Cassie! Cassie and I met my freshman year at Seattle Pacific University when we lived on the same dorm floor. She was a sophomore with one of the cutest, best-styled dorm rooms on our floor — which made sense when I learned she was majoring in interior design. Later we both met Michaela, who was also an SPU Interior Design student, and the rest is history. We all graduated from the same program, and I’ve long admired Cassie’s creativity, eye for style, and design talent.

She now lives near Seattle with her sweet little family. Like the rest of the sisters (me, Kylee and Michaela), she has a Goldendoodle — so you know she’s kindred in more ways than one. Michaela has an English Creme Golden Retriever, Kylee has a Labradoodle, and we have a Goldendoodle and a Labradoodle. It’s become a bit of a family trait!

Every time I saw photos of Cassie’s home and projects, I knew readers here would love following along with her ideas. Recently we asked if she would share a bit about herself and her home on The Inspired Room, and we were delighted when she agreed. Cassie will be popping in occasionally to share house tours, DIY projects, and practical decorating inspiration. You’ll love her warm, approachable style — so without further ado, let’s welcome her to the sisterhood!

Hello friends!

I’m so excited to get to know you and to join the conversation here on The Inspired Room. I’d like to share a little about myself and show you around our home.

I studied Interior Design at SPU, just like Courtney and Michaela. After graduation I stepped away from formal design work for a while, but creativity has remained a big part of my life. I married my husband in my last year of school; he’s a designer and software developer, and we love collaborating on home projects. Our shared passion for thoughtful design keeps projects interesting and fun.

Cassie Family

After several tiny apartments in downtown Seattle, we moved to the small town of Snoqualmie and bought our house two years ago. Since then our family has grown: we welcomed a dog (a goldendoodle, of course), had a baby, and are now expecting another little one.

Life is busy — diapers, puppy leashes, paintbrushes and baking pans all claim space in our days. I enjoy the challenge of creating a home that’s both beautiful and practical for our current stage of life. Our home isn’t perfect every day, but I love giving it warmth, character, and thoughtful details.

When we moved in, we prioritized the downstairs since it’s where we host guests and spend family time. The main level includes an office, a three-quarter bath, the living room, dining room, and kitchen. My favorite space so far is the dining room.

Navy blue dining room

Our home’s walls are a soft, light grey-beige, and for the dining room I wanted a deep, rich navy to add warmth and drama. The color we chose (Seaworthy by Sherwin Williams) turned out beautifully. I also love the dining room light fixture we selected; installing it was one of my more nerve-wracking moments, but well worth it for the final look.

The living room remains a work in progress — likely a continuous project while we have young children — but it’s cozy and practical. Our front window faces the street and park, which is where our dog Summer loves to perch and watch the world go by.

Upstairs we’ve focused on the kids’ spaces. Our daughter Evalyn (Evie) is 15 months old and full of energy. Designing her nursery was a favorite project while we awaited her arrival. I treasure the quilt I made for her and a few sweet prints I found to personalize the space.

Bookshelf ledges

I’m an avid reader, so we’ve built up a small library at home. We installed simple book ledges in the nursery and keep more books in the playroom. Living in the Seattle area means lots of rainy days, and a dedicated playroom was essential for indoor playtime. The playroom is evolving, but I’m happy with the cheerful rug and practical storage solutions we chose so far.

We’re on an ongoing journey with our home — we’ve completed many updates and have plenty more on the list. I’m excited to share more tours, DIY projects, and everyday decorating ideas with you as we continue to make this house a home.
