Welcome — I’m glad you’ve stopped by for a virtual coffee. Recently my daughter Courtney visited and I treated us to vanilla bourbon coffees. It felt indulgent, like the kind of after-dinner coffee you might order at a restaurant, though we enjoyed ours in the morning. The good news is you don’t need to buy bourbon or visit a café to make this — it’s simple to prepare at home. I’ll walk you through how I make mine below.

I brew almost all my coffee at home now. It saves money and, personally, I think it makes better coffee. I order whole beans that I grind fresh in my grinder every day or every couple of days, then brew them in a stovetop espresso maker. Freshly ground beans and a stovetop brew produce a rich, robust cup that’s perfect as a base for variations.

Once brewed, you can drink the coffee black or dress it up. I usually froth a little oat milk to add creaminess — I don’t use dairy or almond milk myself, but use whichever milk you prefer. I’ve been meaning to make my own oat milk someday, but until then I enjoy the convenience of store-bought varieties. Frothed oat milk gives the coffee a cozy, latte-like texture without overpowering the coffee’s flavor.

On most days I keep things simple, but occasionally I like to jazz up my morning cup. Small additions can make the routine feel special, like you’ve slipped into a favorite café for a moment. One easy and delicious option is a Vanilla Bourbon Coffee — it adds a warm, sweet depth that’s both comforting and sophisticated. Below is the straightforward way I turn my regular coffee into a vanilla bourbon latte.

Ready?

This is what I add to make my coffee a Vanilla Bourbon Latte: a splash of vanilla bourbon extract.

I use just a splash to start and adjust to taste. A touch of honey pairs nicely if you prefer a slightly sweeter drink. Add the extract to your brewed coffee, stir in frothed oat milk if you like, and taste — increase the extract or sweetener as desired. The result is a cozy, flavorful cup that feels a bit fancy without much effort.

A quiet morning with a special coffee is a lovely way to slow down and enjoy a moment to yourself. You might make this on a crisp morning while reading a seasonal post or browsing your favorite blogs — coffee and reading have long been a comforting pair. Whether you’re nesting for fall or simply savoring a peaceful start to the day, this little twist on your usual cup can make the ritual feel cozier.

Happy nesting!
