1. Gather serving pieces and supplies a few days ahead.
A few days before guests arrive I collect everything I’ll need in one place. This gives me time to visualize the flow without last-minute stress. I pull together serving trays, platters, napkins, glasses, pitchers and any special items I plan to use so they’re ready when guests arrive.
I always check that our rechargeable outdoor lamps are charged. Having cordless lamps fully powered lets me add soft, warm light across the patio, porch, or dining area. Light plays a big role in setting a relaxed summer mood.
A few attractive, practical serving pieces make a big difference. Even simple snacks feel elevated when they’re presented on pretty platters—so I keep a selection of versatile, easy-to-clean items on hand.

A simple drink station on a rolling serving cart on the porch or patio gives guests another comfortable spot to gather. It keeps the kitchen clear and encourages conversation to flow throughout the home.
I love a glass beverage dispenser with a fruit insert and ice tube. It looks beautiful and keeps drinks cold without diluting them—perfect for infused water, lemonade, or iced tea.
