French armoire closet via Lonny
I’m in that familiar phase of gathering ideas, planning and psyching myself up before starting a closet makeover. It’s the part I always enjoy most—collecting inspiration and imagining how the space could look.
Which mostly means I’ve been pinning away on Pinterest.
I’m convinced my closet needs far more charm than it currently has. In my head I see a boutique-like dressing room: a French armoire inside a small walk-in space, romantic wallpaper, elegant light fixtures, pretty furniture and clothes displayed on racks like a curated shop.
That’s the vision I’m working toward.
In reality, my closet features rubber-coated wire shelving, dull brown carpet and walls in an unappealing flesh tone. Not exactly the kind of setting that inspires getting dressed.
I’ve wanted a boutique-style closet for years. I even began a project before we moved, but the move interrupted it and the idea has lingered ever since.

The plan focuses on decluttering, organizing and making the most of the space you already have.
Those action steps are ready to follow, and they’re ideal for a weekend project. If you want a manageable way to transform your closet before investing in decorative upgrades, start with a clear plan and small, effective changes.
